Marilyn

This is my nana. She is the best person that I know. I took this picture on my birthday this past year. She took me to Rock and Roll sushi (my favorite restaurant) and was writing me out a birthday card. She has always given me the sweetest notes and cards throughout my life for every holiday and birthday. I am missing her a lot today. She is still in Birmingham and being four hours away from her is hard.

Today is her birthday. I wish that I was in Birmingham to see her. I would love to hug her and curl up in bed beside her and watch a movie like I did when I was little. I would do anything to be able to be at her house right now.

My nana has taught me so much about being a woman and always seeing the positive in every situation. She has been my light in a lot of dark times. She says that I am her sunshine and, well, she is mine, too. Her positivity and love stretch out and touch everyone that she meets. Her life is full of friends and family. I hope that one day I can be the kind of person that she is. I love my nana.

Halee

Halee is my younger sister. She will be turning 16 in May. We are pretty close now, but growing up we hated each other. We would fight all of the time and we couldn’t even be around each other.

Halee is pretty, determined, and hard working.

As we have gotten older and matured some, we have become a lot closer. Now we try to help each other out, tell secrets, and actually enjoy each other’s company. She likes to help me with my photography. She models for my pictures and videos and in turn I drive her around places since she can’t drive (no license yet).

Halee is funny, smart, and independent.

We occasionally fight, but it is never over anything serous. We fight over things like who has to make the sweet tea and who gets to ride up front in the car.

Halee is happy, friendly, and understanding.

I can’t wait to see what life holds for her. I hope she gets where she wants to be in life and enjoys the ride there.

Spring

I figured since it is the first day of Spring I should write a post about what I hope to accomplish this spring. The weather is nice and I am feeling motivated.

This Spring I hope to:

  • Make the Dean’s List again
  • Have deeper relationships with my friends
  • Get a job
  • Have my photography business take off
  • Save money
  • Plan a trip
  • Write my book
  • Work on my documentary
  • Edit videos
  • Finish my website

Dauphin Island

Today, I took Halee and Mackenzie to the beach with me. We shot some video and took some pictures. It was really fun. We lied out under the sun for hours and enjoyed the water.

This is one of my favorite places. There is never a lot of people there so when I go, I feel like I have the entire beach to myself. I can sit and read and get the best pictures.

Mardi Gras

This year was my first year to celebrate Mardi Gras. I absolutely loved it. I had a little bit of an idea of what it would be like from what people had told me, but nothing can really prepare you for it.

It is an entire month of partying and celebration. Every weekend, parades full of floats, bands, horses, dancers, etc. go down the streets. The best part is that they are throwing you stuff. They throw beads, stuffed animals, cups, coasters, moon pies, crème pies, ribbons, and other little toys. The crowds go crazy over the stuff.

My backseat in my car is full of all of this stuff. I received over 300 bead necklaces. It’s so many beads that I don’t know what to do with them.

Fat Tuesday is the last day of celebration. It is on the last day of February and it is crazy. It is when the best parades and parties are. Everyone goes crazy and spends all day having fun. They spend all day in the sun and all night drinking and dancing.

The only bad part is that you have to return back to work and school on Wednesday. I am so looking forward to next year.

The Swamp at Sunset

Yesterday, I was feeling extremely motivated. I have been having trouble with motivation here lately. I haven’t felt like doing my school work and I hadn’t picked up my camera in forever. Well yesterday, something changed. I haven’t been able to put my camera down.

Around 5, I decided I wanted to go to my university because there is a swamp there that I had never taken pictures of. Mackenzie, my sister, her friend, Kendall, and Liam all decided to go with me. As we were leaving, Mackenzie’s car started to mess up and we had to fix it before we could leave.

We finally got it working and then had to drive the 15 minutes to school. It became a race to get to the bridge over the swamp before the sun went down and we lost the light. My heart raced as I flew around corners and passed cars.

We finally made it. The sun was in the perfect position and it reflected its yellow light across the water. All of my friends and I stood in awe as the sun slowly moved down behind the trees. Its light and warmth touched our skin for as long as it could and then it was gone, replaced by pinks and oranges in the sky.

We followed up our experience with a quick hike on one of our walking trails. It was perfect.

My Field of Flowers

My house sits on 10 acres and most of that land is one large field in the back/side of my yard. It is separated from my actual “backyard” by medium sized trees and azalea bushes. The azalea bushes are in full bloom this time of year and their purple flowers line the sides of my yard and driveway.

The field also is full of other purple flowers and a lot of yellow ones. There are also some camellia bushes with big white and pink flowers. A long yet narrow path is the only thing noticeably touched by humans. I sometimes walk the trail and my cat walks silently at my feet. The yellow flowers stand tall and seem to protect most of the field from people walking on it.

There is one very large tree that is perfect for shade on hot days. I like to sit under it on a blanket and read a good book. My cat, Ave, and/or my chickens will come to investigate my presence in the field. It usually ends up with all four of us curled up under the tree.

I wouldn’t trade a walk through my field of flowers at sunset for anything.

Geology Club

Geology Club is one of the best things that I have ever been a part of. The people in the club are so smart and so good at what they do.

We go on fieldtrips to super cool places around Alabama and the surrounding states. We went to Dismals Canyon and went cave exploring last semester. This semester, we are going to Hogg Mine in LaGrange, Georgia. What’s fun about the trips is that we get to go camping. Camping with your friends is the best kind.

We have movie nights where we all get together and commentate the movies. It is so fun having everyone making jokes the entire time. It makes movie watching more enjoyable.

We also get to participate in the school’s homecoming parade. This is one of my favorite things. I love parades, but being a part of them is even better than watching them.

Geology Club is one of my favorite things. I plan on being a member every year that I’m in college. I love it. They know how to make rocks interesting.

Mobile Museum of Art

One of my favorite places to go is the Mobile Museum of Art. Is it absolutely incredible. When I lived in Birmingham, I went to the Birmingham Museum of Art quite often, but I like the one in Mobile much more.

The first thing that I like about it is its size. It is a medium sized museum. It’s not so big that you are overwhelmed with the amount of art and it’s not so small that you get bored or feel disappointed. It is just the right size.

The next thing that I like about it is the art itself. There is a very wide variety of art and it is organized by style and time period. As you walk through the halls and through the rooms it’s almost as if you are walking through time and across continents. Every once in a while, they bring in new art to display and it is usually more modern. I appreciate the modern art, but not as much as the older art. The photography hallway is my favorite. Photography just speaks to me.

The final thing that I like about the museum is that the art doesn’t stop once you walk out of the front doors. There is a pathway that leads down to a small lake in the back. There is art littering the yard all the way down to the large wooden bridge that crosses the lake. The bridge takes a person across to the other side where a large playground waits for people to use it.

The Mobile Museum of Art is one of my favorite places. I highly recommend it to anyone who is planning a trip to Mobile.

My 2 Best Friends

Mackenzie and Madison have been my best friends for the majority of my life. They are the two most important people in my life and I cherish our memories together.

They always keep me laughing. There is never a dull moment when we are together. We listen to music, talk, laugh, watch movies and do so much more.

My favorite memories of us together are of us dancing to Disney songs in Mackenzie’s living room at 2 in the morning.

We have David Spade and Adam Sandler movie marathons and have late night food runs to McDonald’s.

My best friends are so important to me. I don’t know where I would be without them. I love them.
