Mellow

I just recently started a job at Mellow Mushroom and I work in the kitchen. I absolutely love it. It is incredible. It can be kind of stressful when we get really busy, but it is so fun. I love my coworkers and putting food together.

I applied and was hired on the spot. I was nervous at first, but now I am excited to go in. I actually look forward to going in to work.

The uniforms are cute and comfortable. The managers are nice and actually care about your well being. I wish that I would have applied sooner so that I could work there for longer. If you have a Mellow in your town, then you show totally apply! You might love it!

My Favorite Movies

This weekend was so busy with Mardi Gras parades, Mardi Gras balls, and so much more that I didn’t have time to sit down and write anything. I had a great weekend though. The highlight was being interviewed by the local 15 news and having my face on the news.

I decided to make a list of some of my favorite movies. The movies that are on the list aren’t in any kind of order. I hope that whoever reads this will enjoy the list and watch the movies that are on there.

  • The Godfather
  • Fight Club (My personal favorite)
  • Mr. Nobody
  • Tommy Boy
  • Life
  • Benchwarmers
  • The Hobbit Trilogy
  • Chances Are
  • Without a Paddle
  • Blades of Glory
  • The Impossible
  • Hush
  • My Cousin Vinny
  • Silence of the Lambs
  • Unstoppable
  • Wayne’s World
  • The Room
  • Pretty Woman
  • A Clockwork Orange
  • American Psycho
  • Forrest Gump

I’m not saying that these movies are the best, I am just saying that they are my favorites and I highly recommend them.

Vulcan

The statue of Vulcan sits in Birmingham, AL. It has a glass elevator and a walkway around his feet. He stands as a symbol of strength for the city of iron.

A person can view him from almost any part of the city. He is a uniting figure for the people. He also is a very important part of my life.

I love the Vulcan statue. I love what is stands for and what it means to the city. It also means a lot to me. My grandfather was one of the men to paint this great statue. It was hard work and didn’t pay much, but he did it anyway.

A person can always come here if they are looking for a small adrenaline rush or a great view of the city. All a person has to do is climb on the glass elevator and watch as the world gets further away.

When you are up there, everything else seems to melt away. You are overcome by the beauty of Birmingham and your nerves are working overtime from the height, but I never mind. I would spend every day here if I could.

Birmingham, AL

I am originally from Birmingham, Alabama, and I have lived in or around it my entire life. It wasn’t until this past May that I moved more than 40 miles from this great city.

I miss it sometimes. There was always something to do. The night life was awesome. There were clubs, restaurants, shopping, an art museum, and so much more. This city shaped who I am as a person and if I had been raised anywhere else I would not be me.

It was in this city where I learned to walk, talk, drive, and where I discovered who I am. Birmingham held my heart for 19 years and it is so strange to be so far away.

Birmingham is on many lists as one of the top 1o most dangerous places to live, and I have to admit that there is a lot of crime. The crime is not even noticeable unless you are looking for it. I have never had a bad experience being downtown and I have gone to many sketchy places.

Birmingham is one of the many places that I recommend people visit. It is absolutely beautiful and one of the best places in Alabama if you know where to go.

Waterfall Tour

My friend, Madison, and I once decided to go on a waterfall tour of some of the waterfalls in Alabama. We went to De Soto Falls, Little River Canyon Falls, Noccalula Falls, High Falls, and the Moss Rock Preserve. We spent the entire day driving and hunting waterfalls.

It was incredible. I have never in my life been so close to something so dangerous and beautiful. The rushing water was so loud that you could barely talk over it.

We tried to get as close as we could without falling in so that we could touch them. It was so much fun. Even thinking back on that day causes me to smile and if I concentrate hard enough I can still hear the rushing water.

Sunrise

A few months after I moved to Mobile, school was back in full swing and I was taking my younger brother, Grayson, to the bus stop. For some reason we were awake earlier than usual. We were both dressed and ready to go so we decided to walk out into the field behind our house.

We went pretty far out and the sun was turning the sky a soft pink. We stood out there and watched as the colors became brighter and bled into the blue sky. We both watched silently and the sun started to peak out over the trees.

Everything seemed to glow in the new light and the warmth hit our faces. There was no sound. The light made everything come to life and all of the creatures started moving, preparing for their day.

We probably stood out there for an hour, but it seemed like no time at all. We walked to my car and drove to the bus stop in silence. It was the best start to my day. I have tried to repeat it, but there’s no way to repeat that sunrise.

Weebly

This week for CA 260, we are required to make a Weebly account and set up a website. Weebly has many features that help make it easy to use. It allows you to write, blog, drag and drop, and sell your product online. It also allows you to edit and manage your website from your phone. These features are great for people just now learning web design.

These features helped me a lot because I am new to web design. I have zero background knowledge and this kind of stuff is hard for me. You can probably tell by my blog. 🙂 I was really confused at first using Weebly, but I figured it out.

I just set my account up like five minutes ago. I had to register with my email and then pick a domain for my site. I picked dbwilliamsphotography.weebly.com. Please don’t look at it yet. I literally haven’t done any work to it yet because I’m sitting in the hallway of school waiting on my class to start. I have zero time to work on it right now.

Then I had to pick a theme. I picked Vivian because I like the picture against the gray background. I think they look nice together and will be perfect for what I hope to accomplish with my website. I think that I will keep this these as long as it continues to look nice. I might play around with the themes and find something that looks better, but I don’t know if I’ll do that yet. We’ll see.

AAAnnnnd I don’t feel like posting a picture with this post because I feel like it doesn’t really serve a purpose. I feel like it is a waste of a good picture to stick it on to some boring text. I want to save my pictures for the personal posts because I pour a lot of myself into those and the pictures show who I am too.

University of Alabama at Birmingham

I talked a little bit in my last post about UAB and so I decided to let the school have its own post. I wasn’t really fair in my last post when I spoke of it. I didn’t give it credit for the things that I did like about it.

UAB is a great school, but it just wasn’t the school for me. The campus is great and the professors are really good at their jobs. The students that I met there were awesome and are still some of my best friends. I received a wonderful education while I was there, but I expect more out of a school than just academics. I need clubs and extracurricular activities and they are hard to find at UAB.

I liked it while I was there, but I believe that it was because I didn’t know what I was missing. Now that I go to south, I am so happy and I absolutely love my school. UAB was not home, but south is.

There’s a lot to do in Birmingham, but it’s hard to find time to do any of it because of how much work you are given at UAB. I hate to complain, but I’m hoping that this post might cause someone to think about the school they choose.

College is important and picking the right one for you is just as important. The right school could be the difference between being a successful student and not. Pick the school that feels welcoming, exciting, and like home. Don’t pick a school just because everyone is telling you to or because it’s convenient. Pick the one that will make you happy.

Glowrage

My freshman year of college was spent at UAB and I was miserable. I was so bored there. It was my fault because I decided to go to a school that never felt like “home”. There weren’t any clubs or groups that interested me and I was suffering because of it. Academics are great, but teens need a social life.

Well I saw a flier for this thing called glowrage and decided to check it out. The first time that I went I went with a few friends and the time pictured above I just went with my friend, Jillian (the guys were the DJ’s).

Each time I went I had a blast. It was so much fun. The music was great, the people were crazy, and the paint was cold. For hours we waited and enjoyed the music.

Then came midnight and the party started. Paint was everywhere. It was in my ears, eyes, hair, and everywhere else. We danced all night and by the time it was over, I couldn’t hear anything because the music had been so loud.

It was so much fun. They have them here in Mobile and I would really like to go to one, but there’s so much to do here that I have a hard time pulling myself away. I plan on going to the next one though. I’ll be in the front row.

That Day at the Beach

About a month ago, my friends and I decided to take a day trip to the beach. The air was cold and the beach was almost empty. It was overcast and so the clouds kept the warm away. It was nice.

We wore sweaters, laid out on a blanket, and smoked a few cigarettes. It was nice to just lie there and listen to the waves. We watched children chase birds and tourists take pictures.

We decided to end our day there by having a sand fight. Sand stuck to us and filled our shoes, but we didn’t care. I was a perfect day.
